June 4 ~ Jewels of the Gem City Awards Gala, Dayton Woman's Club, 225 N Ludlow St; 5:30 p.m. DAYTON TO CELEBRATE THE JEWELS OF THE GEM CITY The Women’s Club of Dayton Foundation, YWCA Dayton and Friends of the Dayton Arcade will host the first annual Jewels of the Gem City awards to honor those individuals and/or organizations that have made significant contributions to the historic preservation of Dayton. The first Jewels of the Gem City honorees are: Bob and Nancy Shiffler for preservation and restoration of Dayton landmark buildings; Virginia Toulmin, philanthropist and community leader; and The Seedling Foundation for restoring Stivers school and promoting the Stivers School of the Arts. Honorees will be recognized at a gala sponsored by The Dayton Foundation and Key Bank on Friday, June 4, 2010 at The Dayton Woman’s Club. The evening will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner and an awards program at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person ($40 tax-deductible). In addition, all three sponsoring organizations will hold an open house on Saturday, June Fifth from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. showcasing their own historic sites. Tour tickets are $15 each. Walks utilize stops at park and bus benches. June 26 ~ St. Anne's Hill Garden & Art Tour, High St. Gallery, 48 High St.; 10 a.m. The St. Anne’s Hill Garden & Art Tour will make its biennial return Saturday June 26 2010 offering self-guided tours of some of Dayton’s most beautiful historic gardens and a unique selection of regional art including the neighborhood’s two fine art galleries.The self-guided tours will begin at the High St. Gallery located at 48 High St. in Dayton Ohio. The tour will include a variety of unique gardens galleries local art vendors and parks along our charming neighborhood streets. Visitors will pick up a program and then stroll through the gardens and galleries at their leisure. Enjoy the fresh air while perusing local art! For a true old-fashioned treat visit our Victorian Tea Garden for refreshments and enjoy a relaxing moment on the front lawn of the landmark Bossler Mansion overlooking downtown Dayton.
